Pat Burda, Chair of the Long Range Planning Committee of the Town of Chevy Chase, responded to a comment I left on Maryland Politics Watch: "Wayne, you act like this is all about the Trail for you . . . if we are to believe you, you are willing to spend close to $2 billion when all is said and done just so you can have the Trail completed into Silver Spring."
I launched this blog just over a year ago with a call to keep things in perspective. I repeat that article here because it is as important now as ever.

Either building the Purple Line in order to complete the Capital Crescent Trail into Silver Spring or not building the Purple Line in order to save some of the park character of the Capital Crescent Trail in Chevy Chase would be having the tail wag the dog. The Purple Line ridership estimates show four times as many people would board the Purple Line in a single day than now use the Interim CCT in the Georgetown Branch Corridor in an entire week. The Purple Line decision should be made based upon all of the many important issues, not just on the impact on the CCT.
The focus of the www.silverspringtrails.org website and of this companion blog is limited to issues that effect the trails. I believe the Purple Line light-rail should and does stand on all of the issues, including the many issues not discussed on this blog. I encourage you to explore all of the issues before making your decision about the Purple Line.
